Short Ride to beat the rain: Attitash and Experimental Forest Roads: 9:00 am Note info about a ThursdayBike ride, too!

Tuesday, July 5, 2022

I keep waiting for a the forecast to change for the better, but it seem to be stuck at 50% chance of rain starting around 11:00. We had this exact situation on a Tuesday back in May. It could be possible to get a relatively short ride in before any precipitation. It also could be possible that the rain comes in earlier. In May, we managed to get a ride in with only a sprinkle at the very end. Let's try for a ride like we did and hopefully get out for awhile before the rain comes in.  It is short scenic ride with a nice workout, too.

Just like last time, let's meet at the Attitash parking lot, far western end, at 9:00 am, Ready to Ride.  We will start by riding on the dirt trails near the river. We pop out at Thorne Pond, and then ride on a power line trail to Rolling Ridge, then to Bear Notch Road. We ride up Bear Notch Road about a mile and a half, take the Experimental Forest Roads back down. We then ride back to our cars at Attitash.

If the rain starts earlier we can cut this shorter. If the rain is delayed, we can enjoy a good morning ride in the woods without getting wet!

A mountain bike, gravel bike or hybrid is good for this ride.

If the rain comes early, the ride will be cancelled.

NOTICE for a THURSDAY RIDE!  I am going to start up the ThursdayBike rides again!

This is a unique Thursday Ride:  Dan the Shuttle Man, who is a shuttle driver for The Cross New Hampshire Adventure Trail, has a new shuttle vehicle: a renovated school bus. He wants to test the bus and his inside bike rack system before his first official clients later this month. The bus can take 16 passenger with their bicycles.

For using us as his test case, he has offered to give us a shuttle, for free, so that he can evaluate the rack system that he built.

On THURSDAY, July 6th, meet at the Presidential Rail Trail Parking lot on Route 2 in Gorham at 11:00 am. We will load up the bus with the bikes and us, and Dan will transport us to Jefferson up on the hill to the general store/gas station where we have often stopped for a lunch break. He will drop us off there and we will enjoy the excellent, scenic downhill ride back down  to Israel River Road, Valley Road, and the take rail trail back downhill to our cars in Gorham.

A hybrid or gravel bike is best for this ride, mountain bikes will be OK, too.
