RIDE CANCELLED due to approaching rainstorm.

WEATHER UPDATE AS OF 6:30 am. RIDE CANCELLED. From the forecasts and radar, there is a strong rainstorm headed for us that will be in our ride area at about 10:30 am making the ride likely "Mud and Precipitation". So sad to have to cancel this, but this forecast looks like a lot more than just sprinkles. See you next week!!!
This Dirt and Pavement Ride takes us on the Presidential Rail Trail, Valley Road and paved roads to the Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge. We should do this ride now, before the black flies, mosquitos and energetic beavers take over the wildlife refuge area. It has been dry lately, so the rail trail should not be muddy. About half of this ride uses the route of the Cross New Hampshire Adventure Trail.
As compared to last week's ride on Hogan Road, I think (hope) that the trail conditions for this week's ride will be much less adventurous. We will have hard packed dirt on the rail trail, dirt and stones on Valley Road and good paved roads including Israel River Road, Hazen Road and Route 115. Hybrids should be fine for this ride. A mountain bike will be better than a skinny-tire road bike.
Meet at the Castle Trailhead, located on Route 2 in Jefferson. To get there, take Route 16 to Gorham, take a left at the intersection with Route 2, go through town and take a left at the traffic light to stay on Route 2. Go up and down Randolph hill and past the Appalachia Parking lot. At the top of the hill, the Castle Trailhead Parking area is on the left. It is about 8.5 miles from the stoplight.
Carpool from the JacksonXC/Wentworth Golf Course lower parking lot, across from the J-Town Deli. Meet for carpooling at 9:00 am, otherwise see you at the Castle Trailhead.
Ready to Ride at 10:00 am. Bring food and drink.
Total distance is about 22 miles.
