Ride to Madison Boulder, NH's Rock Star 10:00 am

Tuesday April 27, 2021

Yup, a Rock Star.

Madison Boulder is the largest glacial erratic in New England. There are arguments with the Canadians as to whether it is the largest in North America (they have a big one too). It may be the largest in the world. It is pictured in geology textbooks! We have a National Natural Landmark right close by in the town of Madison. Why have you not seen this big rock???

The day will be sunny and in the 60's, so a good day to look at a rock.

The ride starts in the IGA/State Liquor Store parking lot on Route 16 in Conway. Park at the southern end near where the bank and IGA used to be. For GPS users, the parking area is just north of Rockingham Electric Supply, located at 220 White Mountain Highway in Conway,

We will ride over the Saco Covered Bridge and into Conway Village, then up and over Tasker Hill Road and eventually onto the winding dirt roads of Edelweiss Village along the southern shores of the Pea Porridge Ponds. A short ride on Route 113 brings us to Boulder Road, by the transfer station, then into the Madison Boulder Natural Area Park for viewing "New Hampshire's Original Rock Star".

Total distance, about 18 miles, about half on hard packed dirt roads. A good ride to start the season.

Ready to ride at 10:00 am.

Bring lunch or snacks to enjoy while gawking at the boulder and/or alongside Little Pea Porridge Pond on our return.
