Bike the Prospect Farm XC Ski Trails! 9:30 am

Tuesday, August 20, 2019

This week's ride will be hosted by Laurel. She will take you on the summer version of a Prospect Farm ski. Ride with her to see what some of our favorite XC Ski trails look like in the summer!!

A Mountain Bike is perfect for this ride. Be there, 9:30 am, ready to ride at the JXN Holcomb snowshoe parking lot on the right, before the B&B, on Carter Notch Road just after the road turns to dirt.

Enjoy! Take a few photos for this blog and send to Ellen at JacksonXC for the website! Happy skiers in summer biking mode!

Here is what Laurel says:

"I rode the Prospect Farm Ride today on my mountain bike to test it out for next Tuesday.  The ride should take about 2 hours, including time for a snack at the Orchard Trail intersection.

This is an exploration ride of Prospect Farm in the summer.  Come see what the ski trails are like with no snow! We will meet at the JXC Holcomb snowshoe parking lot, which is on the right just after the pavement ends on Carter Notch Road.  Ready to Ride at 9:30 am.  This is a Dirt and No Pavement ride, with zero car traffic once we get past the closed road gates a half mile into the ride.  Most of the riding is on double track forest roads- see photo- so the best bike is a mountain bike.  Expect about a 10 mile ride, going out and back on Boggy Brook Trail, Quail Trail, and the Wildcat Valley Trail up to Orchard. There will be an option for a single track side trip to see a beaver pond on the upper Dana Place Trail.

If you do not have a mountain bike, you can do the first part of the ride on Boggy Brook with a sturdy gravel bike (I’ve done this on my 32 mm tire gravel bike).  The rest of the ride is a bit rugged for anything but a mountain bike."
