RIDE CANCELLED.
All the forecasts have coalesced into rain occurring by 11:00 or earlier up there in Shelburne. The temperature will be 53 degrees at the max, some forecasts don't go above 50, then the temp falls as the rain comes in.
There is no sun, it is currently 45 degrees, damp, the radar shows the approaching rain. After the last few days of nice weather, this is not inspiring. Since we are not on vacation, we don't need to ride in a cold rain!
Lets do the ride NEXT WEEK, it is a beautiful ride in nice weather. Thursday currently looks ok... we'll see, if good I will post the North Road ride for ThursdayBike, out of Shelburne.

Wild River Road Ride:
The ride starts in Shelburne Village, NH, at the Chester Hayes Memorial Park. It heads to North Road and goes to the iron bridge over the Androscoggin River. Ride over the bridge and stop for a nice river view. Continue to Route 2, take a right and after a short distance, turn left onto Route 113, the road to Evans Notch. This is a beautiful ride along the Wild River, a nice gradual grade up. After 3.3 miles, you will take a right onto a dirt road, Wild River Road, that leads 5 miles to a backcountry campground. Ride this out and back. Lunch break could be riverside, perhaps near the new bridge on the Wild River (replaced after Irene took out the old suspension bridge).
Distance: About 30 miles. 20 miles on pavement and 10 miles on a good dirt road.
Distance: About 30 miles. 20 miles on pavement and 10 miles on a good dirt road.
The condition of the dirt on the Wild River Road is very good now. You could be OK riding your road bike on this ride. There will be only occasional areas of rough or sandy spots that you can avoid. Road ires of 28 mm or more, a hybrid, a mountain bike with slick tires would be just fine. Knobby mountain bike tires are OK too, just a bit more of a workout on the paved road. Pump them up a bit. This is a no-rush ride, so all types of bikes should be OK.
Meet at the park in Shelburne ready to ride at 9:00 am.
Shorter option? Start at the iron bridge (Bridge St, Gilead) for a nice 18 mile ride (8 miles on pavement, 10 miles on dirt). There is a parking area on the southwest side of the iron bridge.
Meeting place and parking: Start from Shelburne Village, just off Meadow Road (a left turn off of Route 2 about 5 miles east from the Route 16/2 junction in Gorham). After turning left into Meadow from Route 2, take a quick right onto Village Road. Take a left into the Chester Hayes Memorial Park and park on the left off the dirt pathway on the grass.
If you want to carpool, meet in Jackson, in the parking lot across the street from the J-Town Deli at 8:10 am. Otherwise, see you in Shelburne!

NEWS FLASH:
FIRST NOTICE!!!!! The Cross New Hampshire Adventure Trail Ride, End-to End!
Dates are going to be Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday, June 25, 26, 27. I am choosing these dates so that we can enjoy sunshine and good weather (right??), plus the lupine and the wildflowers should be blooming along the way, hopefully the bugs will be diminishing. This will be a 3 day ride, 2 nights in motels or inns along the way. I am arranging lodgings, shuttles and dining options, and now need to get an approximation of how many are interested. Gear will be shuttled, you don't need to use panniers to transport your wardrobe. If you are concerned about not having the right bike for this adventure, there are a few bikes that are available to borrow.
Please let me know if you are interested or considering joining in. There are 3 confirmed riders already!
Stay tuned for more info!
