RIDE CANCELLED Mineral Site, Thompson Falls

Morning update:  RIDE CANCELLED due to more rain than expected. We will do this ride another time!

The forecast is difficult to work with. The forecast radar maps for tomorrow looks like chicken pox spots of rain all over the state. This was just like today with spotty showers at any time at any place. No shower was a big issue today, it was warm enough to deal with a few sprinkles, likely the same tomorrow.

I will set up a ride starting at 10:30 in Conway Village. Seems like there is some consensus that there will be more of a chance for an early morning shower. So out on a limb I go and say that if it looks good tomorrow morning we can meet at 10:30 am at the parking lot at the old vacant IGA in Conway Village, the State Liquor Store Plaza. (If it is raining or thundering I will call this plan off or postpone it, CHECK THE BLOG TOMORROW MORNING TO BE SURE WE CAN GO).

The ride will head out over the covered bridge, turn right and head to Passaconaway Road to Hill Street, a dirt road that leads eventually to the parking area for the trail to the Smokey Quartz Mineral Collecting Site. We can still ride our bikes on the trail here for awhile, and eventually get onto some forest roads. We will then look for the trail to Thompson Falls.  I have hiked in here once, we found it, it was a nice walk and Thompson Falls are beautiful and worth the search.  I presume (I hope) that I can find all the correct turns to get in there, I might be happy to have another rider or 2 that have been in there!! We will likely ditch our bikes in the woods and finish the trek to the falls on the trail by foot.

BRING WALKING OR HIKING SHOES and BRING A LOCK for the bikes. A light rain jacket might be worth having on board. I think a mountain bike is be a good choice, hybrid next best choice. Skinny tires are NOT a good plan for this ride.

There will be only about 12 miles of biking and perhaps 2 miles of hiking, maybe more if we have to do some exploring. This will be a good adventure, and should be fine even if we get some sprinkles. The forest is thick and will be our umbrella.
